Salmon River overwhelmed Highland on the strength of Maddy Tucker's 34 points Tuesday night in Riggins. The Savages doubled Highland's output during the first quarter and never looked back in a 67-48 triumph in their return from the winter break.
Sarah Laritz, who won the opening tip, score four in the first quarter which -- along with a three by Peyton Branstetter, two two-pointers by Chevelle Shepherd and seven of Tucker's -- had the Savages leading 18-9 after one. Shepherd added a couple of treys during the second quarter, and the Savages extended their lead to 31-17 at halftime.
Tucker erupted during the second half, tallying nine during the third quarter and 14 during the fourth.
Shepherd finished with 16 points and Ryan Simonson totaled 11 rebounds as the other Savages in double-digits.
The Salmon River girls will be back in action Saturday, Jan. 9, versus Garden Valley. They'll follow the boys JV game, which has been reset for 2 p.m. (MT) The varsity girls are on deck for 3:30 p.m. Saturday, with the varsity boys at 5 p.m. The boys are due to play at Meadows Friday night, Jan. 8, with the JV at 6 p.m. and the varsity to follow. The boys are also set for a road game Thursday, Jan. 7, at Orofino.
