— Remember, tis the Year of Sweet ‘16… 2016, that is… make every day of this year a day of sweet memories with yourself, your family, your friends, your work partners, your neighbors, the people in your town and across our great land of America. I challenge this quote for all of us this year. “Anyone can find the dirt in some, you be the one to find the gold.”

ASK, After School Kids, Inc., will be hosting three different “Love and Logic” parenting classes free to the public. All materials and light snacks will be provided. These classes will be offered on Thursdays starting tomorrow, Jan.14, 21 and 28 from 6-7:30 p.m. Each class covers a different set of topics so come to all of them! Begin 2016 on a better path to parenting with Love and Logic.

“Wanna color?” Adults, join your friends at the Salmon River Library tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 14, from 6-9 p.m. The library will have hot water for tea and coffee. Take a finger food or easy snack to share. The library will have some coloring books, and will make copies of any picture you want to color; there will also be crayons, markers and colored pencils. If you have a coloring book you want to color in, take it and if you like, take your own coloring utensils. Plan an evening of coloring and fun with adults only.

The Salmon River High School “Future City” competition will be held tomorrow, Thursday, Jan. 14, at 9:15 a.m. in the Salmon River High School multipurpose room. The winners will then advance on to Boise on Jan. 23.

Adults can color, too; join in

“Lifetime Learning” Brundage Mountain Ski Trip will be held Thursday, Jan. 28, for Riggins Elementary students. Forms were sent home last week for permission to attend the ski trip. Read all the information, fill out the forms, and return the Riggins Elementary School permission slip in addition to the two forms for Brundage Mountain filled in and signed to the Riggins Elementary School. The fee of $15 for each student needs to be paid before the trip; PTO is paying the additional costs for the students.

Check with the Salmon River High School and Riggins Elementary School for basketball games, home and away. They have several games left… cheering them on to victory is another way to support and encourage our Salmon River kids.

Volunteers are needed to help run the concession stand for high school and elementary school basketball games Contact Rhonda Damon or Tracie Pottenger to let them know when you can help. Thanks so much for wanting to help our kids and our schools.

“Congratulations to Everlee Akins, Kingston Ford, and Charlee Hollon for being selected as winners in the Riggins Post Office Christmas Coloring Contest. It was a tough decision but these kids did an amazing job! Special thanks go to our awesome donors: Summerville’s, Salmon River Inn, Pine Tree Credit Union, Tourist Trap Consignment and Gift Shop, and Frank and Marlene Mignerey. Without these incredible supporters, this event would not be possible. Thank you for all the wonderful coloring pages that decorated my office during the Christmas season.” ~Postmaster, Lori Schmidt.

Ray and Kay Payton are once again in Texas for medical needs for Kay… their address is Ballard House, Ray and Kay Payton, Rm. 108, 21421 Cinco Park Road, Katy, TX 77450… phone no. 817-525-5172. Cards and calls are very uplifting to them.

Gracie Barron’s granddaughter, Areona, was diagnosed with leukemia in December and is in St Luke’s Children’s Hospital in Boise; Gracie is staying there with her. Send Areona and Gracie cards addressed to St Luke’s Regional Hospital, c/o Areona Hibberd, Room 4634, 190 East Bannock, Boise ID 83712. Nothing better to lift the spirits than cards from friends.
