Not local, but business interests drive trade

Letter to the Editor

To grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

I wanted to sadly inform you what may be happening to your forest areas due to the misguidance and obsession of certain public officials. These are the same forest areas that many of you remember the times you have spent hunting, fishing, picking berries, mushrooms, etc. with your parents and grandparents.

If you live in Idaho County, three county commissioners are supposed to represent the people and their wishes instead of developers wanting to take away these lands that bring in so much recreation monies. They are obsessed with not listening to your parents and grandparents but rather to business interests that wish to take away your public lands. Unfortunately, some local people still continue to go along with officials trying desperately to take away your lands forever!

Idaho’s two senators, Crapo and Risch, have signed a senate amendment along with some 90 percent of other senators in their party to sell, trade, giveaway etc., all public lands from you. These two senators also volunteered to trade away thousands of acres of your lands (Lochsa Exchange) in a senate legislative bill without asking their constituents first! Despite this, many grandparents will continue to go along with these politicians in elections. Yes, it is difficult to imagine why, why, why!

The Forest Service, supposedly managing your lands for the future, has turned traitor as it works closely with those wanting to take away these lands behind closed doors so they can be clearcut, parceled and sold.

As a grandpa, I wish to apologize for what is happening to your lands and I must say after living and working in dictator-controlled countries for many years, I never thought this same evil system would invade America but it has with public lands and one political party.
