Free steelhead fly fishing clinic slated

GRANGEVILLE — Steelhead fly fishing instructor Mark Imus will be at Rae Brother’s Sporting Goods, 247 E. Main Street, from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 30.

Spring soccer registration set

GRANGEVILLE — Registration for spring soccer will be next Tuesday, Feb. 2, at the GEMS Community room from 5-6 p.m. Sign up two ways. Either:

Go online, print out the spring soccer registration and the club registration forms. Either mail them to the Boys and Girls Club or drop them by the registration meeting. Or, attend the registration meeting. Games begin March 19. Practices will start the week of March 7.

“Remember, if you coach, you get to choose your practice schedule,” organizer Tara Connolley said.

Cost is $75 for the first child and $5 off for each additional child. Scholarships are available.

Practice will be in Grangeville. Games will be in Lewiston or Clarkston.

Camas Prairie FNRA banquet set Feb. 12

GREENCREEK — The Camas Prairie chapter of the Friends of the NRA — a shooting sports and gun safety charity — will hold their annual banquet at 5:30 p.m. Feb. 12. The event includes auctions, raffle items and games.

The last three years, the group has awarded $6,500 to hunter safety programs and the “Women on Target” shooting clinic, $1,300 to the Idaho County Sheriff’s Office for a shooting safety program, $3,500 to the Grangeville Gun Club for that building’s handicap accessibility, and $1,350 to the Idaho County 4-H shooting program for supplies and shotguns. The group has contributed to hunter safety programs in both Grangeville and Kamiah and “numerous other grants were funded between Lewiston and Riggins.”

Hunter education and gun safety classes: hunter ed set Feb. 1

GRANGEVILLE — An adults-only hunter education and gun safety class will run Feb. 1-13, while two student classes are slated this spring (before turkey season) and another student class is set for this fall. This class will run 6 p.m. to 8 p.m.

education. The fee is $8 and the class size is limited to 30.

All hunters born on or after Jan. 1, 1975, are required by state law to complete a hunter education course before purchasing a hunting license in Idaho.

Two more hunter ed courses on tap

Two hunter education classes are coming up this spring. The first will run Feb. 22-March 5 and the second will run March 14-26 at the Grangeville Elementary School library from 6-8 p.m.

A student course will also be offered this fall.

Parents of enrolled minors need to be at the first session. The fee is $8 and the class size is limited to 30.
