— Jackie Mackie and all others involved would like to thank all the ladies for contributing to the bake sales that were held to raise funds for Elk City Days. And thanks to all those who bought the goodies.

Calling all kids! How would you like to have some summer fun by being creative and brave? Then try something new – come up with an idea for an entry in the Elk City Days Kids’ Parade. Let’s see. What could that be? The theme of the parade is “Surviving the Slide.” Maybe you could use a big box, make it look like an earth mover and walk down the street on it…or you could be the “angry bear rock”… or…? The parade is Friday, Aug. 12, with registration at 4:30 p.m. The parade starts at 5 p.m.

Peg Gehring, nurse practitioner, will be in Elk City July 26, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., at the Medical Clinic. Call 962-3267.

Veterinarian Kim Wolfrum will be in Elk City July 21 and 22. Call 553-9283 for an appointment.

Meetings: Sew Help Me Quilters on the 26th.

Birthdays: Maggie Mann and Jessica Montgomery.

History: To determine the best route, Wellington Bird was appointed superintendent and to start construction. Mr. Bird determined that the best route to Montana and the mining boom there was over Lolo, not the Nez Perce trail. He was given $50,000 to build the road. But the money got spent and not much was accomplished at the time.
