Hot Summer Nights to sizzle this weekend

Event in Riggins: Friday, July 22, and Saturday, July 23



— What includes classic cars, reunions and local talent galore? It’s those Hot Summer Nights.

The annual Hot Summer Nights celebration is set for this weekend, Friday, July 22, and Saturday, July 23, in Riggins. The annual event is held at the Riggins City Park.

Friday, July 22, will start out with Music by Dub and Dace at 4 p.m., followed by Smiles the Clown, 4:40-6:30 p.m. The ASK (After School Kids) group and Susie O’Leary will perform at 6:45 p.m. and The Famous Talent Show is set for 7 p.m.

“Register early for the talent show as only 30 spots are open,” said Free Press Riggins correspondent Jeannie Fitch.

The talent show offers $1,500 in cash and prizes in three age groups and is for amateurs only. Sign up by Thursday, July 21, by calling Tracey Bird or Linnea Hinton at 628-3350.

The Canyon Camillians will also perform Friday night.

Saturday will start with D.J., Scribbles at noon and music by Dub and Dave again at 4 p.m. The Cool Car Show participants will start rolling in at noon and the show will be held 4 to 8 p.m.

Joaquin, Verna & Dave from White Bird will play at 7 p.m., followed at 9 p.m. by the Fabulous Chancellors will perform until midnight.

Both days will offer food booths, a beer garden, water slide, snow cones and face painting. The event is sponsored by the Salmon River Chamber of Commerce (www.rigginsidaho.com) and cost is $5 per person with children 10 and younger getting in free. No coolers or pets allowed. Sponsors include Jerry’s Auto, Gem Stop, Hayden, Coors and Riggins Whitewater Market.

Salmon River High School’s class of 1966 will host its 50-year-reunion during the Hot Summer Nights weekend with June Whitten as the contact person. The ’80s Decade SRHS Reunion will also be held this weekend. Contacts are Necia Clark, Tonya Grush and Lynn Cook.
