•GRANGEVILLE – A search for a new administrator begins at Syringa Hospital after Jess Hawley steps down. Board chair Pat Long will act as interim administrator until a replacement can be named.

20 YEARS AGO July 17, 1996

•An aerial survey reveals vandalism on Jack Creek Road. The Forest Service estimates a 2 mile stretch of road leading into Jack Creek timber sale has been trenched, blocked or otherwise damaged. There are no estimates on damage.

30 YEARS AGO July 23, 1986

•CLEARWATER – A Clearwater rancher shot and killed a 250-pound female African lion Sunday after it was seen stalking a group of horses. The lion was spotted about 75 yards from him as he walked alongside his barn. The lion had escaped from a ranch in Clearwater.

40 YEARS AGO July 21, 1976

•GRANGEVILLE – University of Idaho researchers are investigating a mystery wheat found on the Camas Prairie. As demand for spring wheat increased from the previous year, an unidentified variety known only as MP-1 was offered as an alternative. Farmers found it was not maturing like other spring wheats and a tour was being conducted.
