KAMIAH Kamiah Fly-In is slated this Saturday, July 30, at the Kamiah Airport. There is no admission charge for the event.
The event is sponsored by the Clearwater Valley Aero Club, Inc. The goal is to raise funds for the group as well as spark interest in youth for aviation.
Breakfast will be served from 8 to 10 a.m. Free, introductory flights will be offered to children ages 8 to 17 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parental permission is required for children to fly.
Some youth may have the opportunity to take a turn at piloting, said Danyel Rich, secretary for the Clearwater Valley Aero Club.
“Some may get the chance to hold onto the yolk and turn this way and that way. They won’t be doing any landing or take-offs,” she said.
Kids are also invited to participate in a water balloon drop and spot landings competition at 10 a.m. Prizes will be awarded.
An auction of items from local businesses will start at 11:30 a.m. and will be followed by lunch at noon. Funds received will go toward maintenance of the club airplanes and necessary supplies.
Live music and specialty planes will be on display throughout the day. A crop duster, helicopter, and an elipse – a circular airplane – are among the aircraft visitors will be able to view.
