ICSO deputy on leave regarding complaint

Sheriff states action not politically motivated

Results are tentative to return this week on an internal investigation concerning an Idaho County Sheriff’s deputy recently placed on administrative leave.

ICSO Corporal Carlos Martinez is on paid leave pending investigation, which is being conducted by an outside law enforcement agency, according to Idaho County Sheriff Doug Giddings.

“This is standard operating procedure,” he said.

Giddings was limited on commenting on the matter, which is a personnel issue, other than saying it was initiated by a citizen complaint brought to the department shortly before the Memorial Day holiday.

“Right now we’re not saying anything other than it’s a complaint, and we’re going to have to find out more about it before we can say much of anything,” Giddings said. He clarified that complaints can consist of many things, “so we don’t want to put something out and find out later it’s not true.”

Corporal Martinez is stationed in the Kooskia area, and he is currently running for sheriff against Giddings as an Independent in the Nov. 8 general election.

Addressing some public concerns this investigation was political motivated, Giddings stated, “Not at all. Not even in the slightest.”
