Riggins News: Shaul is winner of Pinehurst quilt

A public information meeting about a resort tax will be held tonight, Wednesday, June 8, 6- 6:30 p.m., at the Riggins City Hall. See the Free Press for more details on this meeting.

Winner of the Pinehurst Quilters beautiful elk themed quilt was Mervin Shaul of Riggins. Patty Solberg, coordinator of the Hikin’ for Healthy Hooters, said more than $900 was made for the cancer cure from the quilt. Kudos to the ladies for their selfless work on the quilt.

School is dismissed for the summer. Be watching for kids and teens as summer begins and they are out and about!

“Mini” ASK Football camp will be held tomorrow, Thursday, June 9, at Salmon River High School. Grades K-8 will meet from 1—4 p.m. for $5 each.

Paula Tucker’s Basketball Camp will be held June 13-16 at SRHS. Grades K-2 will meet from 9-10 a.m., for $10. Grades 3-8 will meet 9 a.m.-noon for $20. High school will meet 5-7:30 p.m. $20.

ASK Outdoor camp will be held Monday- Thursday June 20-23 from 10 a.m. – 2 p.m., every day at Riggins Elementary School. No cost, grades K-12.

The Salmon River Public Library’s Summer Library Reading Program will be held for children 1- 8 years old beginning Tuesday, June 28th and each Tuesday through July…5th, 12th, 19th, and 26th at 1:00 pm. The theme this year is “On your Mark, Get Set, READ 2016.” Be a reading champion this summer; attend the Reading program. Miss Susan reads stories, does crafts, has treats, and gives books to the kiddos who attend.

Memorial services for Gary Willman will be held this Saturday June 11, 11 a.m., at the Little Salmon River Bible Church. Family and friends are invited to the dinner following the service. Meat and drinks will be provided; please bring a side dish.

Celebration of life of Katie Knight will be held in June with a probable date of Sunday, June 26, 2 p.m., at her home church, Salmon River Community Church. Katie died peacefully in her sleep early Wednesday morning May 25, at her home. She was the epitome of “The Beauty Within.” She shared sweetness, kindness, love, and friendship freely. Her daughter Debbie and husband LeRoy Shaw, her son Steve Woodley, her three grandchildren, Chad, Ryan and Jodi and spouses, and her eight great grandchildren as well as all of us who have been adopted by her over the years miss her dearly.

Attention any and all 1980 - 1989 SRHS Graduates! In case you aren’t aware, there is an upcoming Totally Awesome ’80s Reunion being put together for July 22 and 23 during Hot Summer Nights in Riggins. Contact Lynn Cook if you are willing to help or would like to volunteer someone.

The Dare to Kayak date for Riggins is July 13. Workshops for small groups of students on July 12, 14 and Aug. 8 9 and 10. Dare to Kayak this year is funded by a grant from the Idaho Dept. of Tourism. We will engage in river clean up and water safety along with running some fun stretches of river. Please let me know if you can join us for all or some of the dates listed above.

VBS, Vacation Bible School, at the Salmon River Community Church, which is open to all kids and visiting cousins ages 3-12, will be held July 18-22. More details later.

The 3rd Annual Riggins Salmon Run will be held the second Saturday in September, starting September 10th, 2016 sponsored by the Salmon River Chamber of Commerce. Contact Mariah Crump or Hannah McClure for registration info.
