Royalty tryouts are tonight

The Clearwater Valley Roundup Association (CVRA) will be host to the 2017 rodeo royalty tryouts during rodeo tonight, Wednesday, June 15, 6:30 p.m.

Tryouts will be held at the CVRA rodeo grounds on Hill Street in Kamiah. Eligible contestants must be 14-18 years old as of Jan. 1, and live in Idaho, Lewis, Nez Perce, Clearwater or Latah counties. Contestants must participate in this year’s CVRA Main Street parade Saturday, June 19, and ride in the grand entry both days of this year’s CVRA rodeo (June 18 and 19).

Dress requirements for the tryout, parade, and rodeo are long-sleeved western shirt, western jeans, western cowboy hat, and cowboy boots.

— The Clearwater Valley Roundup Association (CVRA) Rodeo is on tap for this weekend, June 18 and 19.

Saturday, June 18, the Cowboy breakfast will be held at the rodeo grounds from 7 to 10 a.m.

Mutton busting and the junior rodeo will start at 5:30 p.m., with the main rodeos taking place at 6 p.m.

The Cowboy Breakfast will also run Sunday, June 19, followed by Cowboy Church at 9 a.m. The Main Street parade is set for 11 a.m., led by CVRA Queen Jade Paul and Princess Shelbie Miller and grand marshals Gary and Karleen Dutcher of Stites. Parade entries should call 305-9382.

Mutton busting and junior steer riding will take place at 12:30 p.m., with the main event starting at 1 p.m.

Local team roping and breakaway roping are set for the rodeo as well as junior barrel racing (13 and younger and 13 to 18) and junior steer riding (ages 7 to 14). A kids calf scramble will also take place; enter at the rodeo.

Main rodeo events will include bull riding, team roping, saddle bronc, bareback, dull dogging, calf roping, break away, barrel racing and ranch bronc riding.
