— Elk City Baptist Church will hold their annual summer Vacation Bible School for children the week of June 27 through July 1. All children are invited from preschool through 7th grade. The program is titled: Submerged – Finding truth below the surface. The children will learn some very important life skills and truths while they have fun with music and other creative activities. Snacks will be provided each day. The activities kick off Monday, June 27, 9 a.m. The week will end on Friday at noon with a special program for the parents and a free lunch for all. There is no cost and all children are welcome.

The Friends of the Elk City Wagon Road are busy working on the road for the Wagon Road Days celebration in July. If you haven’t made the trip, this would be a good time to do it!

Meetings: Sew Help Me Quilters on the 28th.

Birthdays: Logan Mann

History: The Magruder Corridor, the Montana Road, the Southern Nez Perce Trail … These names refer to the same historical route the Nez Perce Indians used to traverse from the Columbia plateau to the Great Plains to hunt buffalo. The name, Magruder, to many, has no meaning, but to those of you who have read the books written about the Magruder murder, the trail becomes something more than just a trail. There seem to be more and more people coming into Elk City to ride the Magruder Corridor, especially on motorcycles. Many people call me for information on when the road opens, and when I tell them some of the history of the road they become intrigued. And of course, I recommend they read the book before they come. We will explore this historic route in our history section during the next several issues.
