Lucile woman in fair condition following Friday rollover crash

— A Lucile woman received injuries in a single-vehicle rollover crash north of Riggins last Friday.

Verne D. Kapusta, 57, was transported to Syringa Hospital in Grangeville, complaining of rib pain, and was taken by Life Flight to St Joseph Regional Medical Center in Lewiston. As of Tuesday, June 21, she was listed in fair condition.

The crash happened around 11:30 a.m. on June 17; however, it was not reported until discovered by a passerby three hours later, according to an Idaho County Sheriff’s Office (ICSO) report. Kapusta was driving a 2007 Jeep Liberty eastbound about 10 mph on McKinley Mine Road, uphill, and her right front tire got too close to the edge. By the time she realized she was off the roadway, the edge of the road gave way, causing her vehicle to fall down the embankment, where it rolled three times, coming to rest on its roof.

Kapusta was not trapped but due to her injuries she was unable to extricate herself from the vehicle. Riggins Ambulance and Salmon River Rural Fire Department crews responded and extricated Kapusta.

ICSO Deputy Kevin Brown investigated the crash.
