WHITE BIRD Konnyr Marek was the only rider to stick with one of the Superior Rodeos ranch broncs last Friday and Saturday, June 17-18, at the 27th annual White Bird Rodeo. Including the $1,600 in added money as a Western States Ranch Rodeo Association event, the qualified ride ended up being worth more than $2,200 to Marek — the weekend’s single biggest payout.
Other big winners included Noah Bayes in bareback riding, Cody Allred in saddle bronc riding, Augie Robinson in tiedown roping, Rylee Pottenger in breakaway roping, Jacob Stacey and Caleb McMillan in team roping, Jordan Minor in barrel racing and, in local team roping, Doug Boggan and Kevin Botts.
Caleb McMillan also won the steer wrestling and so took the all-around cowboy honor.
Youth barrels racers placed as follows: Dani Aiken got first, Phoebe Rupp got second, Micaela Farris got third, JayCee Marek got fourth, Jordyn Pottenger got fifth and Cassie Chandler got sixth.
Calf scramble winners were Noah Cereghino of Lucile, Ashton Beeson of Grangeville and Keaton Frei of Moscow — and Beeson won the older group (ages 8-12) both Friday and Saturday.
Raffle winners were: Peyton Lowry of Moscow (jet boat trip for two), Frank Mather of New Meadows ($200), Kara Pardue of Grangeville (University of Idaho football homecoming tickets), Serena Jackson of Grangeville (Silverwood tickets for two) and Alex Province of Orofino (painted skull head).
