ICSO deputy back following inquiry

Departmental policy issue solved in-house

Idaho County Sheriff’s deputy, Cpl. Carlos Martinez, returned to work last Friday, June 24, following completion of an internal investigation brought in early June.

Martinez had been on paid leave pending the investigation, conducted by an outside law enforcement agency regarding an unspecified citizen complaint brought shortly before Memorial Day.

“This regards a departmental policy issue, and it has been dealt with,” said Idaho County Sheriff Doug Giddings. As it regards a personnel matter, Giddings could not go into specifics on the complaint other than it was strictly an internal matter, “nothing criminal about it.” He commented such investigations on citizen complaints regarding officers are not uncommon and that these are each reviewed for validity.

Giddings said, as per policy, Martinez has up to 10 days of receiving report results to respond to the matter.

Corporal Martinez is stationed in the Kooskia area, and he is currently running for sheriff against Giddings as an Independent in the Nov. 8 general election.
