KOOSKIA What do a botched audition, a stepped-on foot, and an unwanted fiancé all have in common? Just ask Bobby Child and a trip he makes from New York City to Deadrock, Nev.
The Clearwater Valley High School drama and music department, under the direction of music teacher Elizabeth Nuxoll, will present “Crazy For You” this Thursday, March 17, and Friday, March 18, 7 p.m. each night at CVHS’s cafeteria/auditorium. Cost is $5 per person. Music and lyrics are by George and Ira Gershwin and the book is by Ken Ludwig.
Senior Zachary Baldwin commands the stage as Child, with strong singing voice and presence. Add in the sweet soprano tone, twangy talk and love interest Polly Baker, played by freshman Rose Hale, and it’s a recipe for romance at its, errr, finest? At least at its funniest.
Child has a couple tricks up his sleeve to win Polly’s affections, but Lank Hawkins, played by comedic scene-stealer junior Zachary Krieger, has his own ideas. Will this Deadrock hick and the city boy Child butt heads in endeavors to get what they want? Tune in to “Crazy For You” to see.
With musical dance numbers and familiar songs such as Slap That Bass, Someone to Watch Over Me, I Got Rythym and They Can’t Take That Away From Me, audiences will find plenty to laugh at, tap a foot to and hum along with.
“I’m really proud of these kids,” said Nuxoll, who directed the successful “Wizard of Oz” musical last year. “There’s a lot of talent on that stage.”
