Riggins News: B-ballers selected for all-conference honors

Anita Smith who turned 95 years young Feb. 14 will be honored at a 95th birthday celebration this Saturday, April 2, from 2-4 p.m. at the Salmon Rapids Lodge in Riggins. Everyone is invited to the party. Anita’s family is hosting the occasion and requests no gifts.

Salmon River basketball players both boys and girls made the selection for the 1A Long Pin All-Conference. Selected for the boys’ second team is Tucker Boyd with honorable mention going to Devan Branstetter, and Canyon Harper was selected as freshman of the year. For the girls’ team, Paula Tucker was honored as coach of the year, and Maddy Tucker was honored as player of the year. Sarah Laritz and Chevelle Shepherd were selected for the girls’ first team, Payton Branstetter was selected for girls’ second team with honorable mention going to Ryan Simonson. Congratulations, Salmon River athletes!

The Salmon River Community Church Youth Group is having a spaghetti feed next Saturday, April 9, at the church; there will be a money donation at the door. The public is invited and encouraged to attend. Get on out for a fun evening and help out our Riggins youth.

After School Kids, Inc., in Riggins is seeking a highly motivated, friendly and passionate individual who loves working with children of all ages. Jet Boat Race weekend 2016 will take place on the Salmon River Friday, April 15, through Sunday, April 17. Prelim races will be ongoing Friday, April 15, from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. for viewers’ entertainment. The Show and Shine Boat Show will be held in the Salmon Rapids Motel parking lot with the annual barbecue from 6-8 p.m. with music by Joaquin, Verna and Dave. Public is welcome and encouraged to attend both. Race apparel will be available all weekend. Jet boat weekend is sponsored by the Salmon River Chamber of Commerce.

Anyone wanting their business or individual name on the back of the Jet Boat 2016 race apparel is asked to contact Marlene Mignerey by Friday, April 1.

Color the Canyon 5K will be held Saturday April 23 at Riggins Elementary School. Registration is 8:30-9:45 a.m. Race starts at 10:00 a.m. Register at www.ultrasignup.com Questions can be directed to Hannah McClure at 469-0499 or Karen Akins at 628-4101.

Salmon River Art Guild is offering an “Asian Inspired Gourd Vessel” workshop by Alan Sweeney Saturday, April 2, at the Gresham Studio from noon to 3 or 4 p.m. The Art Guild is offering an “Acrylic Class with Valeria Yost” Saturday and Sunday, April 23 and 24, at the White Bird Community Center from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. (PST)/9 a.m. to 5 p.m. (MST).
