G’ville, CV hold serve at league

Clearwater Valley

— Clearwater Valley won three boys doubles matches, three mixed doubles matches, and three boys singles matches last weekend at the second league tennis meet of the season, held April 30 at LHS and LCSC. Most of the Rams’ wins came over Clark Fork and Coeur d’Alene Charter foes they’ve barely seen so far this season.

Grangeville had a similar showing, with three boys singles wins, five girls singles wins, a boys doubles win, three girls doubles wins, and four mixed doubles wins.

“Teams got a late start waiting for the LHS courts to dry,” GHS coach Kerry McCulley said. “I was very proud of my girls singles.”

Rachel Kelley and Chloe Dame each won two matches, and Sophia Bush split.

Earlier in the week, Grangeville and CV split eight matches 4-4, with CV’s Zack Baldwin barely topping Noah VanDomelan on a tiebreaker in boys singles. Grangeville’s Patrick Schumacher held off Mitchell Nuxoll 8-3.

In girls singles, Shalynn Gutzman beat Bush 8-4, while Kelley beat Lydia Williams 8-0.

Grangeville swept the girls doubles play with Kenzie Kennedy and Maicee Conner posting an 8-0 win.

Coming — Grangeville and Clearwater Valley are due back in Lewiston on May 14 for the district tournament.
