Idaho County is incredibly fortunate to have Sheryl Nuxoll as our state senator in Boise. She has continually proven herself by actively promoting the principles of Idaho County residents with her actions in Boise. It has been pointed out that, while Idaho is a very Republican state by demographics, many of those who serve in Boise are much less conservative than they would have you believe. Not Senator Nuxoll. She is true to those standards because they mirror her own. She knows how to convince other legislators of the validity of her arguments, gain consensus and get things done. At the same time, she is not afraid to stand up against others (even our governor) when necessary.
During the last session, Senator Nuxoll sponsored a bill to allow the Bible to be used in our schools for secular purposes – the same as it is in every other state in the Union. She had the bill reviewed by several noted attorneys to ensure that it would meet both state and federal judicial standards. She wound up with 15 cosponsors for the bill. When voted on in session, it was overwhelmingly approved by both houses of our legislature. While our governor decided to veto the bill, I don’t think it’s over yet, not with Senator Nuxoll in our camp.
This kind of action – the willingness to do what is right, convince others to join in the effort, and continue the fight in the face of opposition – is what we need with those who represent us in Boise. It’s why we need to have Senator Nuxoll return to Boise as our voice in the Idaho Senate.
