Riggins News: 68th rodeo set for this weekend

Let’s go, let’s show, let’s rodeo at Riggins 68th annual Riggins Rodeo sponsored by the Salmon River Cowboys Association! Honored grand marshalls are Buck and Jeannie Fitch. Royalty are Queen Macenzie Farris of Grangeville and Princess Emily Diaz of Riggins. “Mamas do let your babies grow up to be cowboys” is the theme for the 68th annual Riggins Rodeo this weekend, Saturday, May 7, and Sunday, May 8! The shows begin at 1:30 each afternoon with kids’ calf riding at 1 p.m. Sunday morning is the annual cowboy breakfast being served from 7-10 a.m. Riggins Rodeo parade will begin at the City Park at 11 a.m. The stick horse race for the little ones will be held Sunday only in the rodeo arena at noon with registration beginning at 12:30 p.m. Come on out for the Riggins Rodeo celebration. See you there!

Teacher Appreciation Week is this week, May 2-5. Take the time to thank your children’s teachers; they are a very vital part of your families’ lives. You may also want to think back to a teacher or teachers you had in school whom you would like to contact by phone or note and let them know what an important role they played in your life.

The annual Mother’s Day Tea at the Salmon River Community Church will be held next Friday, May 13, at 2 p.m. in the fellowship room of the church featuring Jeannie Fitch as speaker. All ladies are invited to attend the “Beauty Within” tea.

Hikin’ for Healthy Hooters, Salmon River Canyon cancer fund-raiser, will be held Saturday, May 14, in Pollock at 10 a.m. Participants will begin and end at the Little Salmon Lodge, 121 Old Pollock Road with the annual delicious BBQ. Their annual silent auction will be ongoing. The Pinehurst Quilters have donated a beautiful elk quilt; tickets can be purchased at Tourist Trap Consignment and Gift Shop, or from Bernice Morell, Linda Ryska, Patty Solberg or Jeannie Fitch as well as at the event that day.

May dates to calendar in: There will be a 90th birthday celebration honoring Lola Gordon at an open house at the Salmon Rapids Lodge Saturday, May14, from 2-5 p.m. The family invites friends to stop by and help Lola celebrate.

Salmon River Community Church will honor the Salmon River High School Class of 2016 at their Senior Baccalaureate Tuesday, May 24. Time will be announced next week.

Salmon River Community Church will hold its annual Memorial Day yard sale Friday, May 28, and Saturday, May 29.

White Bird News Tidbits: The White Bird Library will have a yard, bake and book sale this Saturday, May 7, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the library.

The Swiftwater RV Park just outside of White Bird will be celebrating its fourth annual, Spring Rendezvous Vintage Trailer Camp Out this weekend, May 7 and 8. Public is welcome to visit the park and check out the cool trailers.
