Clearwater Valley basketball standout Grant Wallace signed to play basketball at the next level with Rocky Mountain College, an NAIA bastion in Billings, Mont. Wallace, who stands 6-7, secured both athletic and academic scholarships and is set to join a program that graduated four players 6-5 and taller this past season. After joining the league for just one season as a transfer, Wallace impressed Whitepine League coaches with his play both in the lane and above the arc. Coming up this summer, look for Free Press profiles of all the area athletes who are going on to compete at the next level.

Dave Hake, Stephanie and Kevin Hake and Eric Hake took on the annual Bloomsday road race this past weekend in Spokane, Wash. Idaho Forest Group has entered a group in the race the last five years, and a dozen different runners have represented IFG-Grangeville in the race, Grangeville mill manager Shannon Fuchs said. “Each of the five IFG mills send a team to compete in the corporate cup. It is a great opportunity to meet coworkers from the IFG mills in Idaho.” For the Hakes, it was a chance for a bit of family bonding, CIndy Hake said. “My husband Dave has run the last five years, Stephanie and Kevin have run the past three years together, and Eric likes marathons and runs a race like Bloomsday just for fun.” They finished the 12 kilometer course as follows: Kevin (51:19), Eric (53:01), Stephanie (1:06:14) and Dave (1:16:11).
