Read sample ballots before you vote

Polls will be open 8 a.m.-8 p.m. For polling locations and sample ballots, refer to pages 3-4B in this week's issue.

Elections are next Tuesday, May 17, for contested county and state races.

Idaho County

Commissioner District 2 (four-year term): Challenger Rusty Bennett of Kamiah will face off against first-term incumbent Mark Frei of Grangeville in the Republican primary. No other parties have fielded candidates in this race, so Tuesday’s winner will take the seat.

Commissioner District 3 (two-year term): Two-term incumbent Jim Chmelik will go against fellow Cottonwood resident Denis Duman in the Republican primary. Winner in this race will face Democrat Jim Rehder of Cottonwood in the Nov. 8 general election.

District 7 Legislature

Dist. 7 Senator: Carl Crabtree of Grangeville is challenging incumbent Sheryl Nuxoll of Cottonwood in the Republican primary. The winner will face Democrat Ken Meyers of Sagle on Nov. 8.

Dist. 7A House: Priscilla Giddings of White Bird will face Shannon McMillan of Silverton in the Republican primary. The winner will face Democrat Jessica Chilcott of Sandpoint on Nov. 8.

Dist. 7B house: Incumbent Paul Shepherd of Riggins will run against Kris Steneck of Elk City in the Republican primary. No other parties have fielded candidates in this race, so Tuesday’s winner will take the seat.

Unopposed county races:

  • Sheriff: Republican Doug Giddings of Slate Creek, two-term incumbent, will face Independent Carlos Martinez of Kooskia in the Nov. 8 general election.
  • Prosecutor: Three-term incumbent, Kirk MacGregor of Grangeville, is unopposed.
