Class collects pennies for CF

GRANGEVILLE — Mrs. Hauger’s second and third grade classroom at Grangeville Elementary Middle School had their annual Cystic Fibrosis penny drive during the past month.

The class distributed containers for pennies, or other coin donations, to fill throughout the month. The class collects, weighs, sorts and counts the coins, using this as a math activity.

“The students are excited to see how many pounds of coins they collect,” Hauger said. This is the eighth year her class has raised money and awareness for the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation. Cystic Fibrosis is a disease which affects the lungs and digestive system.

GEMS students attend CIAA art show, make their own art

GRANGEVILLE — Recently, students in Mrs. Brege’s Grangeville Elementary Middle School class had the opportunity to visit the art show in town to view the works of many of our local artists. They were amazed at all the different kinds of art and definitely had their favorites. They really liked that they were able to vote on which piece of art they liked the best.

Inspired by that experience, they decided to do some art of their own. Mrs. Brege chose watercolors as the medium and after a bit of instruction, it was time to create some art pieces. The students used the watercolors to create a colorful background. They had to decide which colors would fit and look good together. Then they started their masterpieces. After the paintings dried, the final step was to glue on the white flowers they had made earlier.
