Elk City: Taco feed to help fund ECVFD

— ELK CITY — Memorial Day services will be held at the bridge in Elk City on May 29 at 1 p.m. Let’s get out and honor our veterans.

As reported last week, the Elk City VFW Auxiliary and Post is again sponsoring the giant taco feed to benefit the Elk City Volunteer Fire Department on May 28 at the VFW kitchen from 5–7 p.m. The charge is $8 for all-you-can-eat tacos.

Cocoa shared what the fire department’s expenses have been this last year. “… thanks to the [Elk City Area] Alliance, we are furnished a building rent free, so we can have our trucks inside to prevent the water from freezing.” The main expenses are as follows: power - $1,470; fuel/repairs/parts - $1,611.48; office expenses - $183, and Internet - $480 (we are required to have this to communicate with other agencies, i.e. Homeland Security, Idaho County Emergency Management; Idaho County Local Emergency Planning Committee, Idaho County Sheriff’s Office, etc.)”

Fire Department personnel travel out of Elk City for training and other events and they always pay their own way. The fire department is not charged for these types of expenses.

The fire department is requesting residents of the community to donate approximately $50 per year per household to this effort to serve you with fire protection. Without a fire department, you, as a homeowner, may not qualify for fire insurance. As small as it is, the fire department serves a very valuable and necessary purpose.
