— Cocoa writes: “Wow! The meal was a great success. It was standing room only. We were thrilled at the turnout, it was great. It makes us want to do it again and again.”

“We had the Patriot Pen contestants speak, and then had the Voice of Democracy contestants speak. Their speeches were very inspiring. In Patriot Pen, the winners were Jessica Boyd, Sam Hickman, Derrick Chlebowski, and Marshall Chlebowski. Our Voice of Democracy contestant is Kortney Sims. Last, but not least, the Sew Help Me Quilters presented two Quilts of Valor to Richard Harrison and Nancy Lewis. These were our 23rd and 24th quilts presented. The entire evening was wonderful. God bless our veterans and their families. As president of the VFW Auxiliary, I wish to thank the members who assisted in this endeavor.”

Program, dinner set for Dec. 14

ELK CITY — The Elk City School and Reach Club Christmas program will be held Dec. 14 at 6 p.m. It will start with a dinner of meat, potatoes, gravy and rolls provided by Reach Club. The community is asked to bring side dishes or desserts. Following the dinner will be a program of puppets, singing and maybe even Santa will stop by with gifts for all the children.

Cocoa also expressed thanks to the “election workers for their work in completing all of the election tasks to make sure our day ends in success. Thanks go to Donna Beehler, Carolyn Lovell, Nita Maxwell, Marjorie Mendenhall, Ida Stoneking, and Kellye Whiteman.”

Don’t forget that the Elk City REACH Club is planning for the Christmas bazaar. Call Sue Phillips at 842-2359 for information or questions.

Interesting tidbit: More than 320 departments and agencies at the federal level publish more than 70,000 pages of new and proposed regulations every year and about 2,000 new units of state and local government are created every decade. Who knew!!! (info from Institute for Justice)
