Investigation continuing into Friday two-vehicle collision on Highway 95

IDAHO/LEWIS COUNTY LINE – Idaho State Police is continuing its investigation into a two-vehicle collision last Friday, Nov. 25, five miles north of Ferdinand.

Following the accident, Sheri Wassmuth, 46, of Grangeville, was transported to St. Mary’s Hospital in Cottonwood for evaluation.

The accident was reported at 2:39 p.m. at milepost 268. According to ISP Sgt. Rich Adamson, Wassmuth was driving a 2007 Nissan Xterra northbound, and Randall Strop, 55, of Meridian, was driving a 2016 Freightliner semi-truck and trailer southbound, and Wassmuth crossed the centerline and crashed into the truck.

Strop was wearing a seat belt and was not injured. It is undetermined at this point whether Wassmuth was wearing a seat belt; however, the Nissan airbags did deploy. Investigation is preliminary at this point, according to Adamson, who said it appears Wassmuth may have intentionally crossed the centerline.

Scene assistance was provided by Lewis and Idaho county sheriff’s offices, Winchester Fire Department, and medical units from Winchester and Nezperce.
