Orofino to visit Grangeville Thursday; soccer playoffs start Saturday; Bulldogs likely seeded No. 6

— Grangeville completed a season sweep of Priest River with a 3-0 win last Friday, Sept. 30, and the Bulldogs have beaten Orofino three times so far this season.

But when the Intermountain League’s district tournament opens at noon on Saturday, Oct. 8, at Rathdrum, the Bulldogs — as late-comers to the league — will be seeded sixth.

Grangeville tallied twice during the first half against Priest River, with Illyana Barela finishing off a pass from Hunter Connolley to open the scoring.

Noah Vandomelan scored from the half line when the long ball he played forward bounced out of the Priest River keeper’s grip and rolled into the net.

During the second half, Connolley sliced through the middle and found the net after a long run.

“We really controlled possession, probably 35 of the 40 minutes, during the second half,” coach Mike Connolley said.

Earlier this season, GHS beat Priest River 3-0 in a torrential downpour.

Coming — Grangeville will host Orofino at 4 p.m. this Thursday, Oct. 6. The district tournament will be single-elimination with matches at Rathdrum Oct. 8 and Oct. 11, with the district title match site to be determined.
