Martinez: honorable, active in community

Letter to the Editor

I would like to voice my support for Carlos Martinez for Idaho County Sheriff. Carlos is an honorable officer and man who is an active member of the community and the area athletics department.

In reading Patricia Menough letter to the editor in the Oct. 5 issue of the Free Press, it is stated in the article that Carlos is put on administrative leave due to the fact that he is running for sheriff and he is not an honorable man because he didn’t resign from his position when deciding to run for sheriff. The question I have is why didn’t Mr. Giddings resign from his position eight years ago when he ran against Larry Dasenbrock, or better yet, why did Mr. Dasenbrock not place Doug on administrative leave during that election? Was this not a policy at that point; if not, why is it currently a policy? She also stated that Doug was a constitutional sheriff; she must not be aware of the fact that Doug contacted the City of Grangeville, asking to speak at the Monday night city council meeting and discuss “politics.” He went into the meeting asking the city council to reprimand the city police officers for vocally supporting his challenger, Carlos Martinez, on their off-duty time. He must only stand up for the constitution when it is in his benefit!
