Salmon River on to state; Prairie, Grangeville face play-ins



Salmon River's volleyball team added two district tournament wins to the streak the Savages have run off against Long Pin Conference foes, defeating Garden Valley 3-0 on Oct. 15 and defeating Council 3-0 in the District III title game last night. The district title comes with a berth in the 1AD2 state tournament, Oct. 28-29 at Bonneville, where the Savages will play the District IV champion -- either Lighthouse Christian or Carey -- in the first round.

At the 1AD1 level, during the District I-II consolation final held last night in Lewiston, Prairie defeated Lapwai 3-1 (25-12, 25-22, 19-25, 26-24) to extend the season. Prairie will face a regional playoff at 5 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 20, at Coeur d'Alene HS against Wallace, and with a win there, Prairie would face a state play-in match on at 6 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 22 at Highland HS in Craigmont, against the fourth place team out of District III.

At the 2A level, during the district tournament held last night in Genesee, Grangeville defeated Orofino 3-2 (18-25, 25-18, 25-17, 23-25, 15-13) and St. Maries defeated Grangeville 3-0 (25-16, 25-21, 25-21), making St. Maries the District I-II champion and turning Grangeville's path to state through a play-in to be held at 4 p.m. this Saturday in Craigmont. GHS will face the third place team out of District III.
