White Bird News: City water meters being mapped; Halloween events set

Toni Baker 983-7701

— With all that’s been going on, I have now been able to goof up the reporting of the news. It’s the chamber that you are to get your winter news from, not the Rebekahs. Sorry!

With that said, I can now hopefully get back on track. First, with the EMR classes coming up. If anyone is interested in being a volunteer on the White Bird QRU team, you can contact them at

Rob e-mailed me with some information that they are mapping the locations of the city water meters and checking the fire hydrants, to see which are still working, Several people are helping him and they will continue throughout the week with this project.

Also, Steve is back at the helm for Mac’s, so stop in and check out what he has “cooking!” More on this next week.

Dates to remember are Nov. 8 is election Day – so go vote! It is your God-given right. Then, on Nov. 11, is Veterans Day, so give a shout-out to someone you know or just thank them for their services. Nov. 13 is the Rebekahs’ Thanksgiving dinner, with Bingo starting at 10 a.m. and dinner to follow at noon. Turkey and all the trimmings will be furnished for a small price – good food, great company! They are also raffling a beautiful quilt, handmade rug or some pillowcases, all made by the sisters. Winners will be drawn at the dinner. The money all goes to the general fund and you can purchase your tickets at the Silver Dollar, the Sport Shop, Red’s River Café, the Canyon House or from any member. This all takes place at the IOOF Hall downtown. I have word that the community calendars are finished and will sell for $10 each.

Nov. 3 food pickup is at noon.

Birthdays for the rest of the month are: Lynnell Wassmuth, Pim Hoogland, Linda Bailey, Ellie Marek, Amelia Marek, Kelly Turney, Jack Ray, Jospeh Fulford, Cody Black, Kelly Howard, Maggie Abbott, Mike Sickles, Doug McCall, Kathrine Barham, Ele Tyson, Edith McKnight, Wilma Erne, Todd Martin, Dick Ashcraft, Michael Carlson, Nancy Dreher, Tim Schultz and Carolyn Jones. In memory of Don Maynard and Bud O’Farrell.

Anniversary wishes go out to Don and Yeon Dorris and Ed and Maryanne Carlin.

Please watch out for the little ghosts and goblins as they will be out and about on the 31st. Hope everyone has a happy Halloween!

History Tidbits: Did you know – Veterans Day is an official holiday in the U.S.? Veterans Day honors people who have served in the Armed Forces. It is celebrated on a day symbolic of the end of World War I. It was the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 when the Armistice with Germany went into effect that ended WWI.
