No guns in school; whole idea is stupid

Letter to the Editor

I am writing in regards to Mr. Gorges letter dated Sept. 7 regarding the gun policy at school.

How has it come that all you think about is putting a gun in everyone’s hands? I was raised by a cop and the “blue family” and never were any of them so demanding on everyone carrying a gun as you seem to be. I am not against guns at all...except in school; this is where our children go to learn. Yes, there are “good guys” and “bad guys” in this world, but do you really know who they are? I don’t, my neighbors don’t, my kids don’t; heck, nobody knows because you never really know who someone is. You could be the “bad guy” or the “good guy.” Just because you wear a uniform with a shiny badge does not guarantee that you are the “good guy” because I don’t know you, just like you don’t know everyone you teach to defend themselves. Maybe they wake up one day and just have a bad day ... now put a gun in their hand!

If it’s so important, then maybe I’ll train my kids to be the “good guy,” then they should be able to pack at school as well; their ages are 13, 11 and 6 .... Now that sounded stupid didn’t it? That’s because the whole idea that you are supporting is stupid! Do your job and let the teachers do theirs ... to teach!

No guns in school!
