Sheriff is not for constitutional carry

Letter to the Editor

Is Doug Giddings for constitutional carry? No!

In April 2014, the Idaho County undersheriff held free handgun classes for citizens. The article in the Free Press indicated the classes would be ongoing during spring and summer months. Free.

In November 2015, I attended the Idaho County Republican Central Committee. The guest speaker was Greg Pruett, chairman of Idaho Second Amendment Alliance, of which I am paying member. Pruett spoke about proposed constitutional carry legislation. I had not expected new information or dissension in the crowd. I was surprised on both counts.

I learned several area sheriffs had agreed, in writing, to support constitutional carry legislation during the 2016 session. Sheriff Giddings was not one of those! Even though he attends functions and gives prepared statements saying he will not take your guns, he did not that night. In fact, I clearly heard Giddings state, “The Constitution does not give the right to carry concealed.” Sheriff Giddings is against constitutional carry!

After constitutional carry passed through Idaho’s legislature, I wondered why Giddings made the statement he had. Thinking back to those free handgun classes he promised, I realized he hadn’t delivered. The undersheriff does hold the classes, but privately, on his own property, and he charges between $25 and $200.

For reference see American Freedom Defense (www.amfreedomdefense.org) or YouTube (www.youtube.com/watch?v=9MU6uW4ZbQQ). Citizens should not have to buy their constitutional rights from the sheriff. Doug Giddings thinks they should.

Will you be paying for your rights with cash, PayPal or credit?
