— A body found in the Salmon River last weekend has been confirmed that of accident victim Derek L. Olson, who went missing following a March 20 single vehicle crash.

Determination was announced Tuesday, April 25, according to Idaho County Coroner Cody Funke, matching known physical characteristic with the body found. Olson’s body has been taken to Blackmer Funeral Home in Grangeville.

Olson has been missing since last month’s single-vehicle accident about three miles south of Riggins on U.S. Highway 95. Witnesses reported hearing tires squeal and saw taillights go into the river, and later that morning Olson’s brown 2010 Hyundai Veracruz was located upside down in the water. Olson was believed to have been swept out of the vehicle and into the river.

Olson’s father Dave, has been searching for Derek since the accident, and it was he who found the body at milepost 220 last Saturday, April 22, 10:20 a.m., 10 feet into the river caught on some debris.
