What attorneys would call a ‘sweet deal’

Letters to the Editor

Dear Idaho County Commissioner: In regards to the article on “Solid waste reform still in works; fees, costs still on in Idaho County” Idaho County Free Press dated Aug. 2.

Back a few years ago when Walco was the county garbage collector, they had certain size of dumpsters that were full most of the time, but basically kept them empty. When the contract negotiations fell through, Mr. Simmons shows up with new dumpsters, which are basically 60 percent of what Walco’s were, but for a fee that was acceptable by our Idaho County Commissioners. Seems to me like this could be what attorneys would call a “sweet deal.” What do you think, Mr. Brandt?

So now Mr. Simmons says his dumpsters are running over and they can’t pick up garbage fast enough. But in the meantime, the commissioners impose a garbage fee for every property owner, of which we pay for four; two of which are on raw farm land that never get used, plus the fact we have a Walco dumpster in our yard that we pay for and that we can dump our excess garbage. Beside the fact our commissioners in their infinite wisdom built a garbage site in Ferdinand with a door that is big enough for Twiggy and her garbage can and then wants you to haul your excess garbage to their collection site, which is in Kamiah, and it is unknown for what fee.
