COTTONWOOD Sunday morning we had a welcome sight when we came out of church. It was raining! It smelled so fresh and clean, no smoke smell. Hopefully this will help the firefighters get control of the fires. It was a nice, cool day. A few farmers are still harvesting, but I think they were happy with the rain, also.
There are forest fires all around us so it has been very smoky the last couple of weeks.
Are you looking forward to the Solar eclipse on Monday, Aug. 21? I hope the smoke is cleared that day so we can get a good look at it. Be sure to wear the special glasses so you do not hurt your eyes. This is so cool that we get to see something like this all the way across the United States. That does not happen very often. We should have a pretty good view even if we don’t get the 100 percent that southern Idaho is getting.
This is Idaho County Fair week. 4-H kids are working to have their project ready. Good luck to all of you. Come to Cottonwood Wednesday through Saturday and join in the fun.
The Idaho County Republican Central Committee will have a booth at the Idaho County Fair. They will have information on political issues of importance to everyone. Stop by and visit.
The Idaho Lewis County Cattle Association will be hosting its annual barbecue on Saturday, Aug. 19, in the grassy area by the gazebo at the fairgrounds. The meal includes barbecued beef, roasted potatoes, coleslaw, a roll and a drink. The sides are prepared by A Taste of Art owned by Stephanie Duclos. The barbecue will be served from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. Come and have a tasty lunch with us.
There will be Mass at Holy Cross, Keuterville, on Sunday, Aug. 20. Father Bruce Wren LC will be home visiting and will celebrate Mass that evening in Father Paul’s absence. Mass at Holy Cross is scheduled at 7 p.m., through Sept 10.
The next Engaged Encounter Weekend will be held Sept. 15-17 at the Monastery of St. Gertrude. Registration is going on now! The next retreat after this one will not be held until January 2018. Brochures and registration information is available at your parish office, or on our website at: www.ceelewiston.org.
