Grangeville’s public works director, Jeff McFrederick, has beautifully demonstrated how vision and a plan can accomplish good things. With his budget and managerial skills, he successfully developed a program and timetable for resurfacing many of Grangeville’s streets — including some dust-and-mud stretches that have been embarrassingly neglected for too many years because the city council was “holding out” for the adjacent property owners to pay the bill. Thanks to Jeff and the excellent on-the-ground work by the city maintenance crew for a project that was finished quickly and efficiently with little inconvenience for residents.
With city elections coming up this fall, it is time to be nominating progressive, enthusiastic candidates for the open council positions. The city council has done some fine work but it needs a Comprehensive Plan to meet the needs of the future. Grangeville is not yet realizing its potential.
(Editor’s note: Dumas is a former Grangeville city councilor.)
