— My quote for the week is “I don’t want my children to follow in my footsteps. I want them to take the path next to me and go further than I could have ever dreamed possible.” (I remember my mom telling me something similar to this quote…I did follow my dream to be a 1st grade teacher and I loved it! Thanks, Mom, for giving me “the push” to be what I wanted to be.)

Riggins Elementary School and Salmon River High School K-12 grades begin Tuesday, Aug. 29; Riggins Elementary Preschool begins Wednesday, Aug. 30. There will be no school Labor Day, Monday the 4th. There will be school Friday the 8th. The teachers have in-service Thursday, Aug. 24, and Monday, Aug. 28. The teachers have been in their classrooms the past few weeks readying them for their students. The SRHS office will be open tomorrow, Thursday, Aug. 24. Students, return packets if you have not already done so. Sports fees must be paid before the first game. If you are unable to pay, speak with Mr. Fredrickson.

SRHS football and volleyball schedules are available at the SRHS office as well as online. Plan now to support our Salmon River athletes at their home games and away if you are able, nothing so great as watching and supporting our youth.

The Riggins Salmon Run, sponsored by the Salmon River Chamber of Commerce, will be Saturday, Sept. 9. You are invited to join us. I will not be running, but I will be announcing the events of the day and recognizing each runner as he/she crosses the finish line. The organizers of the run say, “Run happy, run grumpy, run speedy, run slow, run a little, run a lot…just run!” Our Riggins Salmon Run takes place on the road along the banks of the Salmon River…and is a family event…5k-$25, 10k-$35, or 13.1-$45. Register now at; receive a 10 percent discount when you add 5 or more people to the cart at registration. Contact Mariah Crump for more info on this great race along our beautiful Salmon River.

Bingo will be held Wednesday, Sept. 13, 6:30 p.m., at the Riggins Community Center located just behind the Chevron Station. Everyone 18 and older is invited and encouraged to join us. Cash prizes and lots of fun await you…proceeds help fund our Senior Citizen Transportation Service. Come on out and have fun while helping our wonderful “older” citizens who have given to us for many years.

The Idaho County Fair is over for another year. The Salmon River Canyon was well-represented with our 4-H’ers and their parents and grandparents and friends. What a beautiful sight watching our youth working and caring for their animals as well as showing them during showmanship and quality judging. Thanks to Sarah Walters for being their 4-H leader. Thanks to Margaret Munson for serving on the Idaho County Fair Board.
