Traffic stops net felony drug arrests

Idaho County deputies kept busy during eclipse day, making two felony drug arrests during routine patrols.

As of press time, an arraignment hearing was pending for Stacey R. Bierhaus, 53, of Riggins, arrested for felony possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver, and misdemeanors for possession of a controlled substance, possession of paraphernalia, and resisting and obstructing.

Charges resulted following a Monday, Aug. 21 traffic stop by Corporal Mike Chlebowski, according to an ICSO release, during which his narcotics detection canine, Nation, alerted to possible substances in the car. Bierhaus retained her purse when she exited the vehicle; Chlebowski advised Bierhaus it was to remain in the vehicle and she refused to surrender it, and it was subsequently removed from her possession.

In an unrelated incident Monday, John D. Bonato, 46, of Kooskia, was arrested for felony possession of methamphetamine and methadone, and misdemeanors for possession of marijuana, possession of paraphernalia, and resisting and obstructing. As of press time, no court hearing had been set in the matter.

Charges resulted following a traffic stop in Kooskia conducted by Deputy Dam AuGello. According to the release, while speaking to Bonato, Deputy AuGello observed him to be extremely restless and reaching around in the vehicle. Due to his demeanor and the reported smell of marijuana coming from the vehicle, AuGello had Bonato exit the vehicle. Upon exiting, Bonato is alleged to have fled.

Both Bierhaus and Bonato are being held in the Idaho County Jail.
