America’s rise and fall

Letters to the Editor

In the last 100 years, America has risen to extraordinary heights and has now declined to a 200-year low. Why? It’s not as simple as some would want you to believe.

In the beginning, America was formed by men and women who wanted to govern themselves. The colonies that made up America had to form a government that they could each “live with.” The glue that brought them together was their collective faith, Christianity and to self-govern. So, our country and its federal government was, in fact, based on Christian principles (IE: the 10 Commandments, etc.) but none of them wanted other states or a federal government to tell them how to govern themselves. The result was our Constitution with 10 amendments and a new beginning for a God-fearing people. So, what went wrong?

At first, all went great and America grew at a rapid pace for nearly 50 years then up jumped the devil. Slavery had been eating at the soul of this country and as new territory and states were being acquired the issue of slave state vs non-slave states became the straw that broke the country’s back. The Mason-Dickson line could no longer hold back the inevitable, civil war.
