Visitors will find plenty of places to camp, picnic, and play on the Nez Perce–Clearwater National Forests this Labor Day weekend, but with fire risks still listed as “extreme” and multiple public safety closures in force due to ongoing wildfires, visitors are advised to contact Forest Service offices for the latest information before heading to the woods.
Nez Perce-Clearwater National Forests offices will be closed on Monday, Sept. 4, in observance of the holiday. Regular office hours will resume on Tuesday, Sept. 5, so forest visitors are urged to contact the local ranger station ahead of time for the latest on roads, trails, and campgrounds.
Fire restrictions are in effect throughout North Central Idaho, and details about fire restrictions across the state are online at http://www.idahofireinfo.com.
Each Labor Day and each Memorial Day, the Forest Service provides a detailed status update regarding local recreation facilities, including information about which roads and trails are accessible, when campgrounds and RV hookup sites will open or close for the season, and where dumpster service is being maintained.
Find this information online at fs.usda.gov/nezperceclearwater or at idahocountyfreepress.com. Each Nez Perce-Clearwater ranger district’s contact information is available through the Forest Service website, or by contacting the forest supervisor’s office in Kamiah at 208-935-2513.
