Recycling centers closed for Labor Day Weekend

Idaho County Recycling (ICR) centers in Grangeville, Cottonwood and Kooskia will be closed on Saturday, Sept. 2.

ICR has been in operation for eight years, managing sites in four communities (Grangeville, Cottonwood, Kooskia and Riggins).

Volunteers are needed to maintain this service to the communities of Idaho County. For information: 208-983-2843 (Grangeville), 208-962-7170 (Cottonwood) or 208-507-1958 (Kooskia).

NPNF road updates

Multiple projects, including logging operations, culvert replacements, and other construction and maintenance activities continue across the forest and may affect visitor travel on forest roads. Public health and safety concerns due to these activities have resulted in closures of roads or sections of roads on the forest. Other closures have been rescinded as work has concluded.

Visitors are encouraged to always drive defensively and be aware of road conditions before starting your trip. Below is a summary of some recent road updates on the forest:

Lochsa/Powell Ranger District

Road 100: Visitors should expect heavy truck traffic near the Collette Mine site due to restoration activities.

Road 107: RESCINDED: A closure order previously closing Forest Service road 107 (Saddle Camp) from the junction with U.S. Highway 12 to the bridge at Grave Creek has been rescinded.

Log Hauling: Log hauling is under way on several roads on the Lochsa/Powell Ranger District. Travelers should be prepared to encounter truck traffic on the following roads: Road 100, Road 101 (Smith Creek), Road 103 (Beaver Dam Saddle), Road 500.

Moose Creek Ranger District

Road 651: RESCINDED: A closure order previously closing Forest Service road 651 (O’Hara Road) from Trail 713 to the junction with Forest Service road 1129 due to a fill slope slide has been rescinded. The road is now open for visitor use.

Log Hauling: Log hauling is expected to begin on several roads on the Moose Creek Ranger District beginning the week of Aug. 28. Travelers should be prepared to encounter truck traffic on the following roads: Road 223 (Selway Road), Road 651 (O’Hara Road), Road 1129.

Salmon River Ranger District

Road 2002: RESCINDED: An order previously closing a portion of Forest Service road 2002 has been rescinded. Culvert replacement activities at Turnbull Creek are complete.

Hanover Fire Area Closure:

An area closure in place due to active wildfire has closed portions of roads on the Salmon River Ranger District. Impacted roads include Road 221 (Grangeville–Salmon Road), Road 444 (Square Mountain/Gospel Road), and Road 394. Visit the forest website for information.
