Since the Solemnity of Mary, the Mother of God, Jan. 1, 2018, falls on a Monday it is not observed as a Holy Day of Obligation, granted by Bishop Peter Christensen. It remains a Solemnity and is an important celebration in the life of the Church. The faithful are encouraged to attend Mass.
