— My quote for the week is “The New Year 2018 is just around the corner. Ring in the New Year with joy and cheer at midnight Sunday, Dec. 31, 2017.

Happy New Year! New Year’s Day is a time to celebrate new beginnings, new adventures, new whatever you choose as well as celebrating tried and true traditions. Celebrate with your family and friends, your neighbors and those who may be alone for the day. Skiing, sledding, skating, basking in the sun, walking along the beach, going on a picnic, reading a book, taking a nap are all things you can do. You probably have your traditional type of celebration; just remember to fill your day with love and joy and cheer.

Margaret Chambliss is officially retired after 10 years with Riggins Pine Tree Community Credit Union. Margaret and her husband, Joel, have lots of plans to do lots of fun things. Congratulations and best wishes.

Riggins White Water Market opened its new store last Wednesday, Dec. 20, and it is a super-duper place! They were closed Monday and Tuesday to finish moving out of the old and into the new with some of the Salmon River High School students, and many other adults lending a hand to make the move across the street happen. Some used grocery carts, some packed and unpacked trailers and pickups, some just carried items…all in all it was a great community effort getting the new store stocked and open. Plan time to marvel at the store’s beauty and newness and larger selections of items in all areas of the store…the store just goes on and on and on. Thanks to Riggins White Water Market owners John and Jennifer Llewellyn for living out their dream of a bigger, nicer store for Riggins…our dream, too; we Rigginsites have heard about a new store for the past 40 years. They will have a grand opening at a later date, but have everything ready for shopping now.

Pine Tree Community Credit Union and Buds PowerSports are sponsoring a food drive for the Camas Prairie Food Pantry and Riggins Community Food Pantry; the drive ends this Friday, Dec. 29. For every dollar donated to this food drive, they will each match dollar for dollar. Riggins people may donate at Riggins Pine Tree. This money will help us to purchase food supplies to distribute to our community.

Riggins EMTs are looking for a few good men and women. If you feel this is your calling, go to the Riggins City Hall and get more information. Thank you in advance for your service to our community.

Congrats to Harper, Fredrickson

RIGGINS — Congratulations to Salmon River High School football players Canyon Harper and Joe Fredrickson for selection to the 2017 1A Division II All Idaho Football Team. Canyon received recognition as 1st team running back and linebacker. Joe was voted 2nd team offensive line. Way to go, guys!

Salmon River Schools resume classes Monday, Jan. 8, 2018. There will be no school Monday, Jan. 15, as it is Martin Luther King. Jr. Day.

Just a reminder that all dog licenses expire Dec. 31. Protect your pooches and purchase your annual dog license at Riggins City Hall.

Have a happy beginning to 2018; fill each day with joy, love, and happiness, family, friends and neighbors. The year will take you on new adventures and great journeys. Make the best of each and every day and your new year will be the best ever.
