Porters to share at Thursday Encouragers luncheon

GRANGEVILLE — Valentine’s Day/Love is the theme for Encouragers Thursday, Feb. 2 at 11:30 a.m., at Oscar’s Restaurant in Grangeville. Gary and Judy Porter will share about finding God-given happiness in marriage after betrayal and physical abuse in their first marriages. She became a certified karate instructor, determined to never be physically abused again. They will share in song and story how God has brought “beauty for ashes” into their lives.

The Porters moved to Grangeville from Carson City, Nev., where both worked for the city, Judy as a juvenile service officer, and Gary as computer/communications supervisor. They were chaplains for Nevada/California high school rodeo associations for years.

They currently own and operate Cross Country Saddlery and head Rid’n For the Cross Ministries, which sponsors Cowboy Church each month. They also offer classes in karate and ranch-related activities. They have a bed and breakfast, where they often host friends and their adult children and their families.

Encouragers meets the first Thursday of each month at 101 E. Main for a no-host luncheon. Women are encouraged to bring their spouses to this Valentine event. All are welcome to the salad bar luncheon.
