Riggins News: Women with Bait begins this month

Happy Valentine’s Day to everyone Tuesday, Feb. 14. May your day be filled with love and joy, valentine cards, family, and friends. I know the elementary kiddos look forward to this day when they receive lots of valentines from their classmates and teacher; not sure if they still make their own valentine boxes. I so remember making some “purty” ones when I was little…and saw some unique ones when I was teaching first and second grades for 25 years.

The Idaho Banana Co. has valentine candy, flowers, and plants especially for the Valentine’s Day for your special someone.

Long time Salmon River Canyon resident Lester Lowe died Sunday, Feb. 5, 2017, in the McCall Hospital . His service will be this Saturday, Feb. 11, 2 p.m. at the Riggins Community Center just behind the Gems Stop Chevron Station.

“Bingo!” The Senior Citizens Group Bingo is tonight Wednesday, Feb. 8, 6:30 p.m., at the Riggins Community Center in its downstairs room for adults 18 years old and older…located behind the Gem Stop Chevron Station. When you “Bingo,” you get cash!

The 2017 Volunteer Fireman’s Valentine Ball sponsored by the White Bird Chamber of Commerce is this Saturday, Feb. 11, at 7 p.m., PST at Hoot’s Cafe in White Bird. There will be a live and a silent auction fund-raiser, which supports our volunteer firemen from Riggins to Grangeville. Invite your friends and have a sweet valentine’s date with your honey. BPA raising funds for state

RIGGINS — The SRHS Business Professionals of America group, BPA, is selling valentine cookies and cheesecakes or Valentine’s Day next Tuesday, Feb. 14, earning money for state competition in March. Call 628-2770 to place your order and help our SRHS BPA students.

Women with Bait Fishing Tournament begins this month…there will be a lot of women fishing and competing for prizes all month long. The women are on the river with their guides and boat drivers trying to make the catch of the day and the month.

Riggins Rodeo Queen tryouts for the 2017 Riggins Rodeo will be held Saturday, March 11, 10 a.m., at the Riggins Rodeo Grounds. Contact Lynda Mann at 241-8822 cell or 6238-670 home or e-mail her at

Salmon River Art Guild Art Show and sale, “March Miniature Madness,” is set for Saturday, March 18, at Hoot’s Cafe in White Bird, 8 3 p.m., PST. This is a great opportunity to get out for lunch, visit the artists, and enjoy artwork. All items are “miniature” in size and are priced $50 or less. Salmon River Art Guild is celebrating its 53rd year of creating art along the Salmon River.

The Salmon River PTO sponsors many school activities, programs, and events; you are invited to be a part of the excitement. The next PTO meeting is Wednesday, Feb. 15, at 6 p.m., in the RES lunchroom.
