If a word could be used to describe 2017 it would be difficult to find one more appropriate than change. As a nation, we have seen a change in our presidency, the state legislature continues to debate legislation that could significantly affect life in our great state, and Syringa Hospital and Clinics, your community hospital, continues to press forward with an exciting affiliation with Kootenai Medical Center in Coeur d’Alene.
The Griffis family has been affected by changes as well. One of our daughters who has been in residential psychiatric care for the past several years is coming home! We are anxious and excited for this reunion. However, this will demand significant changes to our daily routine. In order to help facilitate her return I have regretfully resigned from Syringa. I will be helping out on a part-time basis this summer to help assist both my patients and our medical staff with this transition. We will then be spending a season as a family traveling for work while keeping our home in Idaho County.
While this is bittersweet to me personally, I am truly excited for our community as I see the changes in the hospital. We have worked hard to build up a medical staff who provides high quality and compassionate care to our community. Our affiliation with Kootenai Medical Center will allow us to stay abreast of the many changes occurring in medicine as well as create a dynamic partnership to proactively meet the medical needs of our region.
I invite you to play a part in this exciting time in your hospital’s history. Contact your hospital board members and let them know your concerns. Consider even running for the hospital board of trustees this May to allow your skill set to augment those of this dedicated group of public servants. Celebrate and embrace with me the many changes being brought about in 2017.
