Savages smack down Council, claim District III title

— Salmon River overwhelmed Council during the second and third quarters of the Long Pin Conference’s district title game Feb. 7.

The Savages went on to win 69-47 behind Chevelle Shepherd’s 19 points, and double-digit outings from Maddy Tucker (17), Sarah Laritz (14) and Payton Branstetter (11).

Salmon River outscored Council 24-8 at the foul line.

During the second quarter, they turned a 16-12 deficit into a 30-27 halftime lead.

The third quarter also tipped toward Salmon River, as a 22-14 differential raised the S-R lead to double-figures.

Coming — Salmon River is set to open at the 1AD2 state tournament Thursday night at Nampa High School. SRHS is set to play Castleford at 6:15 p.m. MT, with the winner to play the Genesis Prep-Rockland winner at 3 p.m. MT Friday, Feb. 17.

The 1AD2 championship game is set for 9:30 a.m. Feb. 18.
