— If you have been down on the river you have noticed all the ice chunks floating down and the chocolate coloring to our water. Mother Nature is still at it so please be careful when near the rivers and streams as many are running high and swift. Along with that comes the flooding, so be ever present of your surroundings as it can come upon you in the blink of an eye.

I hope everyone had a good Valentine’s Day. Saturday was the firemen’s ball at Hoot’s with a lot of activity. Great food and dancing was had by all attending. The donations and participants are greatly appreciated by the chamber. Since 2009 the chamber has made more than $20,000 to the area rural fire departments, which means a lot to everyone.

It’s the middle of the month so there are no meetings to report but I would like to say that Sharon Sickels and Susie Brust are now home recuperating and all are doing well.

Our hearts go out to the families of Theresa Paul, Lester Lowe, and Bruce Bentz as we remember them in passing. Memories will warm your hearts, keep the stories coming. Prayers to all.

Bruce’s memorial will be held on Saturday, Feb. 18, 11 a.m., at the IOOF Hall with a dinner following.

Theresa’s funeral will be next month so will have more information when I get it.

Bonner Brumley has been plowing the roads, driveways, and whatever needs to be done. He is working very hard to keep up with this snow! Now all his hard work has melted, but we appreciate it anyways Bonner.

White Bird Chamber has new members. President is Anna Ousley. VP is Cody Farmer, secretary is Pastor Mike Andrews and treasurer is Linda Wdowiak. Welcome new officers and if anyone has ideas for the upcoming months, I’m sure they would welcome them.

Danielle Swinford Lindsey has taken on chairman for the 10th annual Joe Wilson St. Patrick’s Day Sausage Feed to be held on March 12. The chamber appreciates her stepping up into this new adventure. More information can be had by getting ahold of her and I will have more as it gets closer.

Birthday wishes go out to Norma Moore, Jessica Boone, Canyon Walker Lowe, Megan Bashaw, Don Erne, Brittany Leasy, Nathalie Brake, Hailey Johnson, Liam Bashaw, Jeff McCool, Leah Harvey and Dallas Robinett. In Memory of Joyce Vavra, Snuffy, Dewit Randall and Alicebelle McCallum.

Anniversary wishes go out to Tom and Judy Lamie.

TidBits: Katherine (Broderic) Mahurin was typical of the pioneer spirit of early teachers. She had been born in Iowa, and began teaching there at the age of 16 despite her handicap. Reportedly she had suffered from frostbite to her legs in a Midwestern snowstorm coming home from school as a child. But having wooden legs did not keep her from teaching at Banner Ridge, Star, Riggins, and Slate Creek in the area, as well as Grangeville, Nezperce, and elsewhere. She rode horseback to and from her schools over steep and dangerous trails, regardless of weather, and lived “a spry little lady,” to the age of 95.
