Grangeville tops Orofino; Potlatch ends CV’s season

Boys basketball

Grangeville topped Orofino for the first time all season behind Ryan Ruklic’s 10 points, 11 rebounds double-double on Monday night, Feb. 20 — and it couldn’t have come at a better time.

The 41-31 win over the Maniacs put the GHS boys in the district title game after the print deadline Tuesday night, Feb. 21.

Leading 13-11 after one quarter, Grangeville outscored Orofino every step of the way.

The Bulldogs yielded 15 points to OHS sharpshooter Garrison Bretz, but kept the two Maniac towers — Brandton Chatfield and Bayley Noah — to a total of nine.

Depending on the outcome of Grangeville’s Tuesday night game against St. Maries the Bulldogs may face the Maniacs again. With a loss, they’ll play Thursday with a route to state via a play-in game at stake. A win would secure a berth outright.

Potlatch 59, Clearwater Valley 25

LEWISTON — The Clearwater Valley boys basketball season ended last Thursday night, Feb. 16, in a lopsided loss to Potlatch.

The Loggers outscored the Rams 33-11 during the first half. CV finished 6-14 overall.

The tournament continues Friday night, Feb. 24, with Lapwai playing Prairie for the district title. Prairie and Lapwai have both qualified for the state tournament, March 2-4.
