Three Bulldogs win at Pomeroy

Three Grangeville wrestlers won their weight classes last Thursday, Dec. 29, with freshman Brittney Benavidez (138) sweeping four matches in an all-girls group.

Ryan Cox (126) and Frankie Zumwalt (145) both posted

3-0 records, with Cox “definitely showing well as a technical wrestler,” coach Tyler Bransford said. “He’s staying in control of his matches, or he’s getting back in control with his techniques.”

Cox defeated Daniel Devore of Union, Roman Liedkie of Clarkston and, in the finale, beat Colton Graham of Colton.

Benavidez beat Cassie Andrews of Potlatch, a Clarkston wrestler and two other Washington wrestlers.

“She just went out very aggressively and didn’t make mistakes,” Bransford said. “It was her first time at an all-girls group, and she dominated.”

Zumwalt pinned Chris Jones of Colfax-Gar-Pal, beat Leighton Nedrow of Clarkston by 14-4 major decision and pinned Gabe Jones of Pullman.

Noah Kaschmitter (195) set a new school record for the fastest pin with a win in seven seconds part of a 3-2 run to fourth place. Tristan Bledsoe (fifth at 152) also went 3-2.

Next, Grangeville competes Jan. 6-7 at Joseph, Ore.
